BobaFatt

First Word Records | Soho Radio | BBC 6 Music   ))   City of London, United Kingdom

BobaFatt has been DJing since the early '90s. His mixes, radio shows and club sets have seen him awarded acclaim over the years from BBC 1Xtra, Mixcloud & Fact Magazine. In addition to a fortnightly Friday night show on Soho Radio, he's "resident grandmaster" on BBC 6 Music's 'The Huey Show', providing numerous Block Party mixes for Huey Morgan, and also had a 5-year stint on hip hop station, Itch FM, as well as a number of regular slots on stations such as NTS, Resonance FM & Balamii, and features on Worldwide FM & Rinse FM.

He's played at venues such as Ministry Of Sound, Fabric, Brixton Academy, The Roundhouse, Koko, Somerset House, Printworks & Royal Albert Hall, and held down a decade-long residency at the Big Chill in East London, as well as regular shows at The Jazz Cafe, and residencies at festivals like Hospitality & Soundwave in Croatia, along with various parties as 50% of Main Squeeze.

For a day job, Bobby spent decades working in record shops, including long periods as soul/dance buyer at both Rough Trade East & at HMV Oxford Circus, and 15 or so others. He also ran his own stores in Bath for many years in the late 90s/mid 00s; Groovement & Subway Records (which was painted by one Banksy, incidentally).

Since 2016 he's worked for record labels such as CoOp Presents, Extra Soul Perception, Dimensions Recordings, Total Refreshment Centre, Greco-Roman and R&S. He's been label manager of First Word Records since 2017, named 'Label Of The Year' at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards 2019, releasing music over the years by artists such as Children of Zeus, Kaidi Tatham, Tall Black Guy, Eric Lau, Allysha Joy, 14KT, Takuya Kuroda, Don Leisure, Tawiah & Yazmin Lacey.

Aside from sharing stages with a long-list of high profile DJs & musicians over the years, BobaFatt has provided session work/mixes for Ninja Tune's Solid Steel, Roots Manuva's Banana Klan, Chuck D (Public Enemy)'s RapStation, DJ Yoda, Death Waltz Records, Dazed, The Guardian, Touching Bass, Noisey (Vice), Wah Wah 45s, The Allergies, Gymbox & WhoSampled.

He self-released two beat tapes, 'Switch Up ' (2019) and 'Don't Sleep ' (2020) , consisting of his own productions.

Other fun anecdotes include featuring as an extra in a Chemical Brothers video (for No.1 single 'Setting Sun' with Noel Gallagher) and once teaching the Mayor of Wimbledon to scratch.
