DJ Doorkeeper

Berlin, Deutschland

Looks like all the DJs are being cloned in one of the medical school's secret labs. So at the age of 13, the growing clone starts playing electro-pop at school parties, at 21 he becomes a resident of a fashionable club in London, and by 30 he is the favorite of Ibizan island promoters for the longest lines at the box office. DJ Doorkeeper is rare here. What is good for a Russian is that death is not about him for a German either. In a word, everything in his biography is upside down: who could imagine a German DJ who played his first sets in abandoned Soviet barracks. Further more. He takes part in the No Historical Backspin project, initiated by techno musicians, labels and booking agencies, and all this under the auspices: Germans against fascism and intolerance. And even further: while his colleagues conquered Ibiza, which he conquered long ago, living in luxury hotels, he went to the provincial Crimea in order to become the first German DJ to take part in the Kazantip festival. Rocco Haase's career began in what usually ends: the position of a doorman in the very first techno club in Dresden did not make him hopeless, but became an excuse to move closer to the chicks on the dance floor.
Rocco Haase, or Doorkeeper, became an active member of the techno movement back in 1992 when he hosted his first techno party. Then he still works as a bouncer in the very first techno club in Dresden, from where the nickname Doorkeeper originates. Soon he becomes DJ Doorkeeper, a resident of the Fabrique club - the owner of this club, impressed by Rocco's mixes, offers him his first annual contract, and it is here that DJ Doorkeeper becomes one of the best scratchers in Germany, able to turn the use of vinyl scratch technique into whole show. This is followed by performances at base 1 (Dresden), Deelite Eastside Rave (Leipzig) and Reaktor Party`s (Dresden).
In 1994, in parallel with the increase in the number of Rocco's records, the number of clubs inviting him to headline the party also grows. Similar performances take place within the Ray Nights series of parties in Downtown (Dresden), where Rocco assigns the most important place to house music. A year later, he returns to harder music and takes part in "base 2" in Dresden and for the first time performs outside of Germany at "Radost" in Prague. At this time, Rocco works both as a manager and as an organizer of the event (for example, at "base 2" until it closes).
Next year will be a turning point in the Doorkeeper's career. The year begins with his tour of San Francisco and its surrounding cities. This is followed by his appearances on "May Day" (The Sonic Empire), "Dr. Motte`s official Love Parade Opening" (Licht & Liebe), "No Ufo`s" (Hangar, Berlin) and at the "New Year Party" with B(P)itch Control (Berlin).
Rocco continues to combine his DJ activities with his work as a promoter. And in 1998 he became the founder and member of the UFO professional team. In parallel, he does not miss the time to turn the records. The party series attracts DJs such as Ellen Alien, Tom Clark, Heiko Laux and WestBam. As well as the inimitable Mijk von Dijk (Midi-Hardware) and Doorkeeper (Turntables), playing a characteristic Live Jam.
n 1999, after Doorkeeper returns to his hometown as an already popular DJ, his name can be found among the participants of almost all summer festivals and open-air parties. Participation in such events has a positive effect on his career as a DJ, and soon, in 2000, the music brings him to Berlin, where he decides to stay.
In Berlin, Rocco continues numerous performances, followed by an invitation to "Matrix" (Berlin). Together with Stereo Jack, he releases his first record on the Superstition label. He also takes part in the "No Historical Backspin" project against fascism and intolerance - the initiators of this project are both individual techno musicians and entire labels and booking agencies. Rocco organizes and plans a tour of ten cities and even somehow finds time to visit Moscow, where he makes his debut as a club and radio DJ.
In the summer of 2001, Doorkeeper again recorded his second album with Stereo Jack. Superstition releases a record and the duo go on a short promotional tour with stops at Magic Gate (Hennigsdorf), Phonodrome (Hamburg) and, of course, Alter Schlachthof (Dresden). During the tour, Doorkeeper is introduced to DJs Holgi Star and Emmerson from kiddaz.fm. And soon it becomes clear to them: since they have the same musical tastes, why not work together? The result of their joint activities is the exclusive project "kiddaz.fm" - "Keep it Stereo".
At the beginning of 2002, Rocco returns to Dresden to his work as an event organizer, but continues to travel regularly to Berlin. He also performs in clubs such as Aquapolis (Osijek), Gorod (Moscow) and Tresor (Berlin). In March, the project's first album "Keep it Stereo" is released with A24 EP, one of the tracks of which is patented by Tom Wax for his Mix-CD "My Favorite Tools".
In 2002 he takes part in the festivals "Liberty One" and "Kazantip" on the Crimean coast. Doorkeeper becomes the first German DJ to take part in this festival. Even then, interviews with him were widely broadcast on the MTV channel in Russia, leaving for a long time in our memory the image of Doorkeeper as the first foreign DJ who played at the Kazantip. Also in 2002, he and Stereo Jack were invited to Tokyo with the great success of their single "Underground Suppliement", where he played with Shin Nishimura and Takkyu Ishino. Since 2003, the main activity of DJ Doorkeeper has been the management of the booking agency KIDDAZ.FM. In 2004, he played again at Kazantip and has since been invited annually. In 2005, due to a coincidence, he played a back-to-back afterhour set with DJ Mays on the Inside dance floor, and his recording quickly spread on the Internet and became a cult classic. Since then, all his major performances have taken place almost exclusively in Russia and Ukraine, he fell in love with the audience and their perception of parties as they are. Performances at festivals in Russia followed (Waterdance 2007, Mexanika 2009, Future Fest 2010), and then performances in Ukrainian clubs, in particular, in the residence of the Crimean Embassy of the Kazantip Republic in Sevastopol. There, in the local club Asia, Stephan Bodzin, Oliver Huntemann, Luetzenkirchen und Tomcraft played together with Rocco for the first time in Ukraine, long before their major performances in Ukraine. The doorkeeper brought them all there.
DJ The length of DJ Doorkeeper's emotionally charged sets (rarely less than 3-4 hours) and his personal approach of mixing different styles of electronic music into a cohesive piece of music earned him the moniker "The Monster". Also in his personal life, he found his happiness in Ukraine, spends most of his time in Odessa lived there for many years.
Since a little daughter came into his life, Rocco is no longer a full-time DJ. But he still likes to play sets in the Berlin club DER WEISSE HASE and at the BASE - REVIVAL - parties in the Dresden club PAULA.
